Hazel Marie McDonald Anderson, 84, went home to be with the Lord May 18, 2014.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, Hazel was the daughter of the late Stonewall and Eunice Bradley McDonald. She was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Girls High. Hazel received her bachelorís degree at the University of Georgia. While a student, she met and married her husband of 64 years, the late John H. Anderson.

Hazel was a homemaker for many years while her children were young. During her middle aged years, she worked at Columbus College in Columbus, GA., in her dream job as a coordinator for Arts and Crafts for the continuing education program before retirement took them to spend their golden years in Mexico Beach, Florida in 1982. For over 25 years, she and John enjoyed living near the ocean. They moved to Kernersville to live near their daughter when health concerns arose.

There was very little that Hazel could not accomplish. She was an active gardener, reader, made and collected dolls, played the cello, sang in an opera, loved caring for a home, became accomplished in several crafts, raised six children and built two family homes. She may have been short in stature, but large in the things she accomplished.

In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by her son, Jack M. Anderson, her brother, Mack McDonald and her sister, Sandra Coleman.

Survivors include her daughter Lezah Arney and Ken of Kernersville; sons John Hugh Anderson and Arlene of Palm Bay, FL, Rev. Peter M. Anderson and Barbara of Ocala, FL, Phillip M. Anderson and Ellen of Snellville, GA, and Paul B. Anderson and Jackie of Savannah, GA; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Snellville, GA on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary with Dr. Mike Garrett officiating. A reception will follow immediately in the Fellowship Center. The church is located at 2208 East Main Street in Snellville, GA 30078 (also called Hwy 78).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be offered to the charity of oneís choice.
